2A-1 Region II District 5 recap October 29, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 2A-1 Region II District 5 this week, Whitesboro beat Pilot Point 37-10. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
Whitesboro moved up to 207 from 263 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Eddie Gill's team was able to move up by topping the Bearcats 37-10.
Fino Cardona provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Boyd defeated Ponder. Cardona's key target this week was Austin Cozby, who caught 2 passes for 61 yards.
Rheyce Childress put up the best numbers in passing as Callisburg topped Paradise. He finished with 5 completions for 61 yards and 1 touchdown. Childress' favorite target this week was Derek Serna, who caught 3 passes for 43 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Clay Barnett and Cardona, the Yellowjackets have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Barnett leads the league in passing with 846 yards, while Cardona has rushed for 1,282 yards this season. The Bearcats' Cody Ford leads the league in receiving yards with 297 on 13 catches.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Whitesboro takes on second place Callisburg. Whitesboro defeated Pilot Point last week, while the Wildcats beat the Panthers.
There should be lots of points scored when Callisburg and the Bearcats face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Wildcats comes in having scored 256 this season, while Whitesboro has scored 295. Callisburg scored 35 points last week as it topped Paradise.
