Baseball Recap: Nicolet Gets the Win

Nicolet took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Homestead, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Knights narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Highlanders 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Knights have posted since May 5th.

The team relied heavily on James Wirth, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. Nicolet is undefeated when Wirth posts two or more stolen bases, but 5-14 otherwise.

Nicolet hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Homestead struck out seven times.

Nicolet's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-14. As for Homestead, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season.

Nicolet will be playing in front of their home fans against Germantown at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Homestead, they will head out on the road to square off against Port Washington at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
