Recap: Toll Gate Titans vs. North Smithfield Northmen
On Thursday, the Toll Gate Titans faced the North Smithfield Northmen in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Toll Gate took a 44-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of North Smithfield. Toll Gate's defeat continues an unfortunate trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
Kate Zonin was nothing short of spectacular for North Smithfield: she scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Zonin has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Bryson Murray, who scored 13 points.
Toll Gate has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season. As for North Smithfield, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-7.
Toll Gate won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lincoln at 6:30 p.m. on February 9th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Rhode Island (Lincoln is ranked 17th, while Toll Gate is ranked 14th). As for North Smithfield, they will head out on the road to challenge Burrillville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
