Basketball Game Preview: Hobbs Eagles vs. Piedra Vista Panthers

The Hobbs Eagles will be taking part in a tournament against the Piedra Vista Panthers at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. Hobbs is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games.

Hobbs is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Los Lunas, who was ranked seventh at the time (Hobbs was ranked second). Hobbs was the clear victor by a 58-38 margin over Los Lunas on Friday. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Piedra Vista earned a 51-42 victory over Highland on Saturday.

Hobbs pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 28.5 points. As for Piedra Vista, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Hobbs beat Piedra Vista 64-52 when the teams last played back in March of 2022. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Piedra Vista's Lanae Billy, who went 7 for 17 on her way to 27 points and seven rebounds.
