Maty Mauk of Kenton holds all-time lead with 278 touchdowns passing and rushing.
Blake Barnett of
Erie recently broke Christian McCaffrey's record for career touchdowns in the state of Colorado, scoring for the 142nd time in his four-year career.
While Barnett also has touchdowns on returns and a reception, his career touchdowns for total offense (passing, rushing) are 142. McCaffrey, who recently scored in his 15th straight game for the San Francisco 49ers, scored 141 touchdowns in his four seasons at
Valor Christian (Highlands Ranch) from 2010-13.
Barnett's touchdown efforts grabbed national headlines last week so we added
total offense touchdowns to the MaxPreps National High School Football Record Book. While Barnett's efforts do not quite make the list (there is a minimum touchdown total of 170), his performance is noteworthy nonetheless.
Record Book: Total offense touchdowns (rushing, passing)
Not surprisingly, Maty Mauk of
Kenton (Ohio) tops the list with 278 career touchdowns passing and rushing. His 219 career passing touchdowns rank second all-time behind Jake Browning of
Folsom (Calif.) and he adds an additional 59 rushing touchdowns to the list.
No. 2 Dylan Hair of
Blair Oaks (Jefferson City, Mo.) does not rank high on the list of touchdown pass leaders, but he is the all-time leader in rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 112. Add in his 147 career touchdown passes and Hair ranks only behind Mauk with 259 combined touchdowns.
Not all members of the list have complete totals. Players like Graham Harrell of
Ennis (Texas), Shedeur Sanders of
Trinity Leadership (Cedar Hill, Texas), Ben Mauk of Kenton and Travis Quintanilla of
Refugio (Texas) are missing some rushing touchdowns from their resume. We have included them on the list with the number of touchdowns we know they have scored with the mention that their totals are incomplete. MaxPreps has reached out to the coaches of those players in order to verify their career totals.
The all-time list includes several current starting quarterbacks in the NFL, including Trevor Lawrence of
Cartersville (Ga.), Kyler Murray of
Allen (Texas), Joe Burrow of
Athens (The Plains, Ohio), Bryce Young of
Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), DeShaun Watson of
East Hall (Ga.) and Sam Howell of
Sun Valley (Monroe, N.C.).
