Football Game Preview: University Titans vs. Oviedo Lions + Official Tickets

The University Titans will face off against the Oviedo Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: University has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while Oviedo will arrive with four straight victories.

University's offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against Spruce Creek on Friday. They were outmatched by the Hawks and fell 35-0. While losing is never fun, the Titans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 289th, while the Hawks are ranked 28th).

Meanwhile, Oviedo got the win against Lake Howell on Friday by a conclusive 43-20. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won four matchups by 23 points or more so far this season.

University better focus on containing Brock Joyce and Johnnie Cobbs as the pair were huge in Oviedo's win. Joyce rushed for 103 yards and a pair of scores on only ten carries, while Cobbs rushed for 110 yards and two TDs on only 13 carries. Joyce is becoming a predictor of Oviedo's success: when he posts at least 100 rushing yards the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Sebastian Galeano was another key player, throwing for 207 yards and one touchdown.

Oviedo was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 222 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 158 rushing yards in four consecutive games.

One reason for the win was Oviedo's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Miguel Hernandez refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Oviedo received some extra help from Steven Malone, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Oviedo's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for University, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

University beat Oviedo 30-20 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Lions' Chance Nixon, who rushed for 124 yards and one TD on only 13 carries, and also picked up 45 receiving yards and one score.
