Basketball Recap: Harnett Central Starts off Right with Win over Cape Fear Christian Academy

Harnett Central had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They blew past the Cape Fear Christian Academy Eagles 57-18. The Trojans pushed the score to 52-10 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles cut but never quite recovered from.

Harnett Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Emma Avery out in front who shot 55% from the field en route to 15 points and four steals. Nataya Brewington was another key player, going 5-for-12 on her way to 11 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals.

Harnett Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cape Fear Christian Academy only posted one.

Despite the loss, Cape Fear Christian Academy still got an impressive performance from Lily Kate Dupree, who posted nine points.

Cape Fear Christian Academy is on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Harnett Central will challenge Overhills at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cape Fear Christian Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 56-17 loss against Wayne Christian on the 15th.
