Basketball Recap: Burke Takes a Loss

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Burke and Millard West, and Burke kept the tradition alive. The Burke Bulldogs were dealt a 93-29 loss at the hands of the Millard West Wildcats on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 228th in Nebraska, while the Wildcats are ranked second in Nebraska).

Millard West got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Neleigh Gessert out in front who went 8-for-16 to rack up 21 points and six boards. What's more, Gessert also posted a 56% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in January. Another player making a difference was Jade Lewis, who went 8-for-9 on her way to 17 points.

Burke's defeat dropped their record down to 3-22. As for Millard West, they pushed their record up to 24-1 with the victory, which was their 23rd straight at home dating back to last season.

Burke does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Millard West, they will take on Lincoln Southeast at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
