Basketball Recap: Manitou Springs Comes Up Short

On Saturday, the Manitou Springs Mustangs were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 31-26 to the Sand Creek Scorpions.

Despite the loss, Manitou Springs still got an impressive performance from Brooklynn Sheffield, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine steals. Those nine steals gave Sheffield a new career-high.

Tahji Vinson was a one-man wrecking crew for Sand Creek as she almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine steals. Vinson is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least five every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Cynthia Reyes, who posted six points and three steals.

Manitou Springs now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Sand Creek, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Manitou Springs will square off against Frontier Academy at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sand Creek, they will take on D'Evelyn in a tournament on Wednesday. D'Evelyn is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57 points per game this season.
