Baseball Recap: Vasquez Comes Up Short

Vasquez had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped down to 8-11-1 to make it four. They came up short against the Lancaster Eagles, falling 20-12. Even if the Mustangs couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

As for Lancaster, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-10. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Lancaster's part, the team relied heavily on Cole Lewis, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and four RBI. Lewis has become a key player for the Eagles: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Preston, who went 4-for-5 with four runs and two RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vasquez will challenge Trinity Classical Academy at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Lancaster, they will take on Highland at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
