Baseball Recap: Walden Grove Red Wolves vs. Mica Mountain Thunderbolts
It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Walden Grove ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Mica Mountain Thunderbolts, sneaking past 14-13. This was a revenge game for the Red Wolves: when they faced off against the Thunderbolts last Monday, they had to take a 8-7 defeat.

Alec Jimenez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was even better at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 5-for-6. He also brought in three RBI, which is notable because Walden Grove is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 6-7 otherwise.
In other batting news, Walden Grove got a massive performance out of Vaughn Sexton, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI Sexton has posted since back in March. Fabian Martinez also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
Walden Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Walden Grove's record is now 9-7. As for Mica Mountain, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10-1.
Looking ahead, Walden Grove will be playing at home against Nogales at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mica Mountain, they will venture away from home to take on Sabino at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
