Basketball Recap: Coby Sykes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Eastern Greene over Barr-Reeve

Eastern Greene lost against Barr-Reeve back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Eastern Greene Thunderbirds took a hard 59-44 fall against the Barr-Reeve Vikings. While losing is never fun, the Thunderbirds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 325th, while the Vikings are ranked 152nd).

Several Thunderbirds players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Coby Sykes, who went 6 of 14 en route to 14 points and six assists. Another player making a difference was Kyan Hudson, who posted 15 points.

It was another big night for Seth Wagler, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten boards for Barr-Reeve. With that strong performance, Wagler is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Miller, who put up 14 points and seven rebounds.

Eastern Greene now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Barr-Reeve, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Eastern Greene will take on North Daviess at 7:30 p.m. on January 10th. Eastern Greene is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50 points per game this season. As for Barr-Reeve, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 57-45 win against Springs Valley on the 4th.
