Basketball Game Preview: Garner Trojans vs. Corinth Holders Pirates

The Garner Trojans will take on the Corinth Holders Pirates at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Garner is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Rolesville as they made off with a 64-44 win. The Trojans not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since January 4th (when they won 74-22).

Meanwhile, Corinth Holders hadn't done well against Apex Friendship recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Pirates blew past the Patriots 54-24.

Garner better keep an eye on Darla Lee. She was instrumental in Corinth Holders' win, going 10-for-19 en route to 22 points in addition to five boards and four steals. That's the most steals Lee has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lauren Sizemore, who earned six points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Corinth Holders smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 11 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Garner and Corinth Holders were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in February, but Garner came up empty-handed after a 53-52 loss. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Pirates' Jada Vanderhorst, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten boards. Now that the Trojans know the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
