Basketball Recap: Merrillville Takes a Loss

Merrillville was the 63-43 winner over La Porte when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Merrillville Pirates took a 62-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the La Porte Slicers on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 274th, while the Slicers are ranked 104th).

Merrillville has also traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 13 matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season. As for La Porte, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Merrillville won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Culver Academies at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for La Porte, they will face off against Portage at 7:00 p.m. on February 21st.
