Basketball Game Preview: Villa Park Spartans vs. Holy Martyrs Armenian Armens

The Villa Park Spartans will challenge the Holy Martyrs Armenian Armens at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Villa Park knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine matches -- so hopefully Holy Martyrs Armenian likes a good challenge.

Last Tuesday, Villa Park earned a 66-53 victory over Troy. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 174th, while the Warriors are ranked 760th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Villa Park got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sabeel Khan out in front who went 6 of 10 to rack up 12 points and three steals. That's the most points Khan has posted since back in November of 2024. Francesco Gambino was another key player, going 5 for 7 on his way to 13 points.

Holy Martyrs Armenian has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were dealt an 80-41 loss at the hands of Pilibos on Tuesday.

Villa Park is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.8 points over those games. As for Holy Martyrs Armenian, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-7.
