Basketball Recap: Doral Academy Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Doral Academy can now relate to. They had to suffer through a 93-54 loss at the hands of the Columbus Explorers. While losing is never fun, the Firebirds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 213th, while the Explorers are ranked first).

Columbus' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caleb Gaskins, who made all 12 shots he took racking up 29 points. Those 29 points gave Gaskins a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cameron Boozer, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Doral Academy and nudges their season record down to 15-8. As for Columbus, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 23-3.

Doral Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Columbus, they will face off against Western at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Columbus knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten contests -- so hopefully Western likes a good challenge.
