Preview: Legend Titans vs. Chaparral Wolverines
Legend has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Chaparral Wolverines at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Legend faced Rock Canyon in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Legend blew past Rock Canyon 62-38. Legend has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matchups by 21 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Maley Wilhelm, who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Her trending in the right direction, as she's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Cook, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Chaparral had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They secured a 41-35 W over Douglas County. Given Chaparral's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while Douglas County is ranked 92nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Legend's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-1. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 39.33 points. As for Chaparral, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Legend against Chaparral in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 65-35 win. With Legend ahead 42-16 at the half, the match was all but over already.
