Baseball Recap: Lynbrook Takes a Loss

Lynbrook had lost five straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 4-15 to make it six. They lost 13-0 to the Santa Clara Bruins. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bruins this season, with their most recent defeat being a 5-0 loss on April 1st.

As for Santa Clara, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games.

For Santa Clara's part, Bruce Gibson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave Gibson a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andrew Traffas, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Connor Houle, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lynbrook will host Cupertino at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Santa Clara, they will welcome Leigh at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
