Basketball Game Preview: Eisenhower Cadets vs. Sunnyside Grizzlies

Eisenhower and Sunnyside are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but not for long. The Eisenhower Cadets will face off against the Sunnyside Grizzlies at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Eisenhower is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.9 points per game this season.

Last Saturday, Eisenhower came up short against Davis and fell 66-55. While losing is never fun, the Cadets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Pirates are ranked fifth).

Despite the defeat, Eisenhower had strong showings from Nekha Roehl, who posted 22 points, and Mercedez Garza, who scored 18 points. Those 18 points gave Garza a new career-high. Melia Contreras was another key player, putting up seven points.

Meanwhile, Sunnyside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 52-50 heartbreaker at the hands of Moses Lake.

Eisenhower has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for Sunnyside, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-11.

Eisenhower didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Sunnyside when the teams last played on January 11th, but they still walked away with a 51-47 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Eisenhower since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
