Basketball Recap: Mater Dei Snaps Ten-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Mater Dei entered their game against JSerra Catholic on Wednesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Mater Dei Monarchs took a 62-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the JSerra Catholic Lions. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Monarchs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 60-52 two weeks ago.

Mater Dei's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Blake Davidson, who posted 14 points and eight boards. Another player making a difference was Demarcus Henry, who had 14 points.

Mater Dei's loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 19-6. As for JSerra Catholic, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-5.

Mater Dei will square off against St. John Bosco at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in St. John Bosco's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 13 matchups. As for JSerra Catholic, they will host Santa Margarita at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Santa Margarita knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 contests -- so hopefully JSerra Catholic likes a good challenge.
