Baseball Recap: Santa Fe South Victorious

While Santa Fe South's win against Southeast wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Saints narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Spartans 7-5. The win continues a trend for the Saints in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won six in a row.

Santa Fe South got a great performance from Caleb Granados as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Granados also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Saints are 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 6-14 otherwise.

At the plate, Santa Fe South let Drew Cabrera and Javier Duran run wild. Cabrera went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and three RBI, while Duran scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs Duran has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Isaac Olivas, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Santa Fe South's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 9-15. As for Southeast, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-16.

Santa Fe South will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Spartans: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
