Basketball Recap: Chesapeake Takes Down Marriotts Ridge in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Chesapeake walked away with it. They took down Marriotts Ridge 41-27 on Friday. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Marriotts Ridge are ranked 214th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Kiery Matkins continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 23 points. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Emily Brandts, who posted four points and three steals.

Chesapeake's win bumped their record up to 16-7. As for Marriotts Ridge, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-22.

Looking ahead, Chesapeake will be playing in front of their home fans against Mt. Hebron at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Mt. Hebron will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Chesapeake surely won't give up without a fight. Marriotts Ridge does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
