Basketball Recap: Hinkley Thunderbirds vs. Denver South Ravens
This season hasn't been kind to the Hinkley Thunderbirds, who are still winless after their 15th contest. They had to suffer through a rough 51-5 loss at the hands of Denver South. Hinkley has struggled against the Ravens recently, as their game on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Several Thunderbirds players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jimena Rivera, who scored two points along with four steals. It was the first time this season that Rivera grabbed two or more steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ana Taufa, who scored no points along with six blocks and five rebounds.
Denver South found their leader in underclassman Ka'Niya (KJ) Anderson, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Alex Gehring was another key contributor, scoring six points along with four steals.
Hinkley's defeat was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-15. As for Denver South, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-8.
Hinkley will be playing in front of their home fans against the Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Denver South's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on February 5th. Hopefully Centaurus focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 34 on Saturday.
