Basketball Recap: Out-of-Door Academy Thunder vs. St. Petersburg Catholic Barons
Out-of-Door Academy and St. Petersburg Catholic squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Out-of-Door Academy had to settle for second. They were beaten by the St. Petersburg Catholic Barons 50-22. The Thunder were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Barons apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2019.
Despite the loss, Out-of-Door Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gaby Bichanich posted ten points.
St. Petersburg Catholic got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Naomi Denmark out in front who went 7 of 17 to rack up 14 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. That's the most steals Denmark has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kinsley Spoor, who earned eight points along with eight rebounds and five blocks.
Out-of-Door Academy is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-14. As for St. Petersburg Catholic, they pushed their record up to 18-9 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home.
Out-of-Door Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Petersburg Catholic, they will face off against Bradenton Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
