Baseball Game Preview: Monterey Plainsmen vs. Lubbock-Cooper Pirates

Monterey hasn't had much luck against Lubbock-Cooper recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Plainsmen will head out to face off against the Pirates at 7:00 p.m.

Monterey fell victim to Amarillo and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They lost 10-0 to the Sandies. The Plainsmen's defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Monterey saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brent Sanders, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Meanwhile, Lubbock-Cooper waltzed into their game on Saturday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Rebels 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since March 1st.

Lubbock-Cooper pushed their record up to 20-10 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Monterey, their loss dropped their record down to 5-23-1.

Monterey suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Lubbock-Cooper in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Plainsmen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
