Basketball Recap: Jadyn Montoya Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Grants

Valencia won the last time they faced Grants and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Valencia Jaguars took down the Grants Pirates 54-37. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while the Pirates are ranked 74th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Valencia's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jadyn Montoya, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 boards. What's more, Montoya also racked up seven assists, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Jaiden Montgomery was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds.

The win made it two in a row for Valencia and bumps their season record up to 13-5. As for Grants, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-11.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing St. Pius X the next time they take the court. Grants will host St. Pius X at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while Valencia will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on January 28th.
