Basketball Recap: Spearfish Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

A well-balanced attack led Spearfish over Lead-Deadwood in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. The Spearfish Spartans were the clear victor by a 70-47 margin over the Lead-Deadwood Golddiggers. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Golddiggers are ranked 102nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Spearfish's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kade Vavruska, who posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamren Davis, who put up 12 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.

Spearfish's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.4 points per game. As for Lead-Deadwood, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Spearfish will venture away from home to square off against Huron at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Huron's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games. As for Lead-Deadwood, they will head out on the road to take on Mahpiya Luta at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Lead-Deadwood is facing Mahpiya Luta at the right time seeing as Mahpiya Luta is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
