Basketball Recap: Asher Leonard's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Vail Christian over Crested Butte

On Saturday, the Vail Christian Saints came up short against the Crested Butte Titans and fell 67-59.

Vail Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Asher Leonard, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Leonard is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rayman Romanin, who posted ten points.

Even though they lost, Vail Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

Adin Kurak had an outrageously good game for Crested Butte as he had 35 points. With that strong performance, Kurak is now averaging an impressive 18.2 points per game. Eli Hulm was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Vail Christian now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Crested Butte, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-2.

Vail Christian will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Denver Jewish Day at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2025. As for Crested Butte, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 66-41 win against Ouray on the 18th.
