Baseball Recap: Foothill Find Success

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Foothill had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Las Plumas Thunderbirds 3-1. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Thunderbirds: they've now won four in a row.

Blake Schwerdt was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over 6.1 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Schwerdt wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tyce Tenney, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Foothill's victory bumped their record up to 11-14. As for Las Plumas, they moved to 11-9-2 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Coming up, Foothill will square off against Red Bluff at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. Las Plumas does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
