Softball Recap: Lecanto Comes Up Short

Lecanto came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Forest Wildcats, falling 12-2. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Shawna Griffin was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Izzy Coimbre, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Lecanto dropped their record down to 2-6 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Forest, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lecanto will challenge Citrus at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Citrus' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Lecanto's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Forest, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Wildcats take on the Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
