Basketball Game Preview: Maxwell Bears vs. Melrose Buffaloes

Maxwell hasn't had much luck against Melrose recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Maxwell Bears will face off against the Melrose Buffaloes at 1:15 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Maxwell is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They blew past Mountainair 79-58. The Bears have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 games by 21 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Melrose had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They took down the Red Devils 71-53. Given the Buffaloes' advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while the Red Devils are ranked 107th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Melrose's victory bumped their record up to 23-5. As for Maxwell, their win bumped their record up to 22-6.

Maxwell couldn't quite finish off Melrose in their previous meeting back in March of 2020 and fell 59-56. Can Maxwell avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
