After a string of nine wins, Cottonwood's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. Their2024 ended with a 65-50 loss against the Skyline Eagles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Colts of the 65-62 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Cottonwood saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Luka Cecez went 6 of 7 on his way to 13 points and six blocks. Cecez is becoming a predictor of Cottonwood's success: when he posts at least three blocks the team is 8-2 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Park, who posted six points along with eight rebounds and six assists.

It was another big night for Andrew Lindquist, who had 25 points for Skyline. Those 25 points gave Lindquist a new career-high. Cameron Wilson was another key player, putting up 15 points.

Cottonwood's defeat dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Skyline, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4.

Cottonwood and Layton will round out the year against one another at at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Layton knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Cottonwood likes a good challenge. As for Skyline, they will face off against Pleasant Grove at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Skyline has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
