Basketball Recap: Terre Haute North Vigo Finds Playoff Glory Versus Whiteland

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Terre Haute North Vigo had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Whiteland Warriors 72-69. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Warriors are ranked 73rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Terre Haute North Vigo got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Cam Fennell out in front who shot 58% from the field on his way to 20 points. That's the most points Fennell has posted since back in February of 2024. Gavin Woelfle also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Despite the loss, Whiteland still got an impressive performance from Ethan Edwards, who went 12-for-21 to rack up 35 points and six boards. Thanks to that strong game, Edwards now owns an excellent 40.1% three-point shooting accuracy. Gavin Stubbe was another key player, putting up 12 points.

The win (which was Terre Haute North Vigo's fourth in a row) raised their record to 21-5. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.5 points over those games. As for Whiteland, the defeat snapped their winning streak at seven games and leaves them with a 15-12 record.

Looking ahead, Terre Haute North Vigo will square off against Lawrence North at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Terre Haute North Vigo has given up an average of 50.4 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week. Whiteland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
