Basketball Recap: Mattoon Comes Up Short

Mattoon's tournament run continued when they took on Mater Dei on Saturday. The Greenwave took a blow against the Knights, falling 51-23. The Greenwave have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mater Dei was led to victory by Helana Timmermann and Marlee Loepker. Timmermann shot 56% from the field en route to 12 points and seven steals, while Loepker went 5-for-10 on her way to 17 points and eight boards. The dominant performance also gave Timmermann a new career-high in assists (three). Another player making a difference was Amelia Beer, who posted ten points.

Mattoon's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Mater Dei, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Mattoon didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 54-25 defeat against St. Anthony on the 22nd. As for Mater Dei, they have also already played their next game, a 49-25 victory against Gillespie on the 22nd.
