Softball Recap: Ketchikan Takes Down Ranked Juneau-Douglas

Ketchikan faced Juneau-Douglas in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Kings came out on top against the Crimson Bears by a score of 10-5. The Kings haven't had any issues with the Crimson Bears recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

The team relied heavily on Mariah Pechay-Austin, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Brianna Gilson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Ketchikan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.

The victory got Ketchikan back to even at 12-12-2. As for Juneau-Douglas, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-8-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ketchikan will challenge Sitka on Friday. As for Juneau-Douglas, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Wasilla at 3:45 p.m. on the 16th.
