Basketball Recap: Shawnee Mission East Starts Season with Defeat at Home + How To Watch

Shawnee Mission East unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a 55-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Notre Dame de Sion Storm on Friday.

Notre Dame de Sion's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sydney Blaine, who posted nine points in addition to eight rebounds and six steals. That's the most boards Blaine has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mya Verdugo, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and five steals.

Notre Dame de Sion now has a winning record of 2-1.

Coming up, Shawnee Mission East is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will square off against Washburn Rural on Monday. As for Notre Dame de Sion, they will square off against Maranatha Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
