Baseball Game Preview: Wayland Wildcats vs. Thornapple Kellogg Trojans

For the second straight game, Wayland will face off against Thornapple Kellogg. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Trojans at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Wayland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.

Wayland gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over Thornapple Kellogg. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won three in a row.

Wayland got a great performance from Will Lodenstein as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bredan Byrne, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Wayland is undefeated when Byrne posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Trent Sikkema, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Wayland's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Thornapple Kellogg, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.
