Football Recap: Conner Vallerie Leads Barbe's Defense on Friday

If Lafayette wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Barbe, they should've done a better job of containing Jelandon Gray. The Buccaneers put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 63-40 win on Friday for which the team can thank Gray, who rushed for 200 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries, and also threw for 161 yards and three TDs on only 12 passes. He has become a key player for Barbe: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least three passing touchdowns, but 0-4 otherwise.

Another player making a difference was Myles Ledoux, who picked up 79 receiving yards and one score. His longest reception was for an incredible 74 yards.

Barbe's defensive line made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Conner Vallerie with two sacks.

The victory made it two in a row for Barbe and bumps their season record up to 3-5. The team dominated over those games too, winning by an average of 36 points. As for Lafayette, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-4.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Barbe will square off against rival Sulphur at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Lafayette is set to take on their familiar foe New Iberia at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
