Softball Game Preview: South Gate Rams vs. Arleta Mustangs

The South Gate Rams will be taking part in a tournament against the Arleta Mustangs at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. South Gate will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

On Friday, South Gate earned a 10-6 victory over Roosevelt. That's two games straight that the Rams have won by exactly four runs.

Meanwhile, Arleta had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They walked away with an 8-3 win over the Knights.

OLIVIA FIGUEROA spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on four hits.

On the hitting side, ADRIANA VASQUEZ DURAN and KARINA SANCHEZ did most of the damage at the plate: VASQUEZ DURAN scored a run while going 1-for-4, while SANCHEZ went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. What's more, VASQUEZ DURAN posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.

Arleta's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for South Gate, their victory bumped their record up to 6-11.

South Gate took their win against Arleta when the teams last played back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 8-2 score. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
