Basketball Recap: Petersburg Takes a Loss

Petersburg was the 49-42 winner over Metlakatla when they last played one another back in March of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Petersburg Vikings lost to the Metlakatla Chiefs on the road by a 44-27 margin on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Chiefs are ranked 15th).

Petersburg has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for Metlakatla, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.

While Petersburg had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
