Football Game Preview: Lake Ridge Eagles vs. Weatherford Kangaroos

The Lake Ridge Eagles will face off against the Weatherford Kangaroos at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lake Ridge will be strutting in after a win while Weatherford will be coming in after a loss.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Friday. Lake Ridge enjoyed a cozy 42-28 victory over Crowley. Given Lake Ridge's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 121st, while Crowley is ranked 311th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

DeShawn Edwards was his usual excellent self, rushing for 167 yards and two scores on only nine carries, while also throwing for 184 yards and three touchdowns. Those three passing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Mikah B was Edwards' top target, picking up 116 receiving yards and one TD.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lake Ridge was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 251 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 160 rushing yards in eight consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Weatherford was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were beaten by North Crowley 70-7. The contest marked the Kangaroos' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Weatherford's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Lake Ridge, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
