Recap: Bloomfield Bobcats vs. Pojoaque Valley Elks/Elkettes

The Bloomfield Bobcats put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They enjoyed a cozy 44-26 win over Pojoaque Valley. Given Bloomfield's advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while Pojoaque Valley is ranked 54th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bloomfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Danielle Johnson, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and five blocks. That's the first time this season that Johnson posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Aliya Quintana, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds.

Loss or not, Pojoaque Valley got some senior leadership from Lauren Salazar who scored seven points and Marisela Bowie who scored nine points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bowie has scored all season.

Pojoaque Valley struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Bloomfield pulled down 13 offensive rebounds.

Bloomfield's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.6 points per game. As for Pojoaque Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

Bloomfield will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Newcomb at 7:00 p.m. on December 21st. Pojoaque Valley will be home for the holidays to greet Shiprock at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
