High school softball: Roncalli on the rise in MaxPreps Top 25 after Indiana 4A title victory

By Steve Montoya Jun 15, 2021, 10:30am

Esperanza's upset win over previously ranked Norco causes SoCal shakeup.

The outstanding season for Roncalli (Indianapolis) and sophomore sensation Keagan Rothrock concluded Saturday with a 4-1 win over Lake Central (St. John) in the Indiana 4A title game. The Class of 2023's top player struck out 16, and finished the season with 364 strikeouts including 111 during postseason play.

The Royals land at No. 11 overall in this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school softball rankings.

A Southern California upset has bolted Esperanza (Anaheim) from unranked to No. 12. The Aztecs beat Norco 7-2 to advance to Friday's Division 1 section finals against Roosevelt (Eastvale).

In Pennsylvania, Haverford has won 13-straight games, including a massive upset over Spring-Ford in the 6A playoff quarterfinals. The Fords then beat Pennsbury 2-1 to advance to Thursday's state finals against North Penn (Lansdale).
