Basketball Game Preview: Johnson Central Golden Eagles vs. Powell County Pirates

The Johnson Central Golden Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Powell County Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Johnson Central knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Powell County likes a good challenge.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Johnson Central challenged Pike County Central on Saturday. Johnson Central walked away with a 75-65 win over Pike County Central.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Johnson Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brayden Shepherd, who went 9 of 12 on his way to 26 points. Shepherd's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Austin Slone was another key player, going 9 for 17 en route to 21 points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Powell County was able to grind out a solid victory over Estill County on Friday, taking the game 60-51. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pirates.

Powell County's win bumped their record up to 13-6. As for Johnson Central, their victory bumped their record up to 10-7.
