Basketball Recap: San Benito's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

If San Benito was feeling good fresh off their 59-19 takedown of Hanna last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The San Benito Greyhounds fell just short of the Los Fresnos Falcons by a score of 50-47 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Greyhounds have suffered since November 19, 2024.

Several Greyhounds players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Valerie Vela, who went 5 for 10 on her way to 13 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Vela a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jade Maya, who posted ten points in addition to seven assists and four steals.

Even though they lost, San Benito smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 19 consecutive games.

San Benito moved to 19-9 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Los Fresnos, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-12 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Veterans Memorial the next time they take the court. Los Fresnos will head out to face Veterans Memorial at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while San Benito will host them at 7:30 p.m. on January 14th.
