Basketball Game Preview: Edinburg Bobcats vs. La Joya Coyotes

Edinburg has gone 10-0 against La Joya recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Edinburg Bobcats will take on the La Joya Coyotes at 6:00 p.m. Edinburg is coming into the game hot, having won their last eight games.

Edinburg will head into Monday's contest hoping to keep the good times rolling: they had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 32-point drubbing they dealt Pharr-San Juan-Alamo on Monday. Edinburg simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Pharr-San Juan-Alamo 60-28. The Bobcats pushed the score to 48-26 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bears had little chance of recovering from.

It was another big night for Yuri Perez, who went 11 of 20 on her way to 29 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. What's more, she also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Makayla Olvera, who posted 12 points and eight rebounds.

Edinburg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 14 consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, La Joya was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Monday as they fell 31-25 to Weslaco. The Coyotes haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Edinburg's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-12. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for La Joya, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-18.

Edinburg didn't have too much breathing room in their game against La Joya in their previous meeting on January 7th, but they still walked away with a 58-52 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Edinburg since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
