The Rushville Lions will square off against the North Decatur Chargers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Rushville has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while North Decatur will arrive with three straight victories.
Rushville came up short against Connersville on Monday, falling 23-6.
Ella Bowles was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 1-for-2. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.
Meanwhile, North Decatur won against Morristown on Friday with 17 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Chargers never let Jac-Cen-Del get on the board and left with a 17-0 win. The match marked the Chargers' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Elizabeth Meister was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Meister was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, North Decatur got a massive performance out of Madison Rohls, who scored four runs and stole five bases while going 5-for-5. Those four runs gave Rohls a new career-high. Carmen Thackery was another key player, going 4-for-5 with four stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI.
North Decatur always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jac-Cen-Del only posted an OBP of .368.
Rushville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for North Decatur, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rushville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .364. However, it's not like North Decatur struggles in that department as they've averaged .472. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Rushville's way against North Decatur in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, as Rushville made off with a 12-0 victory. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
