Football Recap: Pottsville Falls to Shamokin Area in First Game of Season + How To Watch

Pottsville unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They came up short against the Shamokin Area Indians on Friday, falling 34-14. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Crimson Tide of the 27-13 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Pottsville lost, don't look at Juleon Bainbridge. Despite the final result, he rushed for 93 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also picked up 33 receiving yards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Shamokin Area to victory, but perhaps none more so than Logan Steele, who rushed for 58 yards and one score on only eight carries, and also threw for 85 yards and one TD. Steele didn't just play on offense: he also made eight total tackles and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Zakem Clinton, who rushed for 108 yards and one touchdown on only 14 carries.

Looking ahead, Pottsville is taking a road trip to face off against Jim Thorpe at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Crimson Tide's first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Shamokin Area, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Lake-Lehman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
