While Smithsburg didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They had just enough and edged out the South Hagerstown Rebels 13-12 on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Leopards in their matchups with the Rebels: they've now won five in a row.

Heath Githens was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Githens was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Jaxon Teson was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Eli Bowman, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Smithsburg lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Smithsburg's record is now 5-1. As for South Hagerstown, they dropped their record down to 2-6 with the loss, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.
