Basketball Game Preview: Mellen Granite Diggers vs. Birchwood Bobcats

The Mellen Granite Diggers and the Birchwood Bobcats will round out the year against one another at at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Mellen's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Mellen will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Drummond, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Mellen took down Drummond 74-58 on Thursday. While the Granite Diggers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Birchwood, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. The stars were shining brightly for them in a 57-41 win over Lake Holcombe on Tuesday. The contest marked the Bobcats' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Birchwood pushed their record up to 3-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.1 points per game. As for Mellen, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.

Things could have been worse for Mellen, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 62-47 loss to Birchwood in their previous matchup back in December of 2023.
